Artificial Intelligence

Faubel successfully participates in the AI Innovation Competition of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. More than 130 consortia from science and industry have submitted their proposals for the innovation competition “Artificial Intelligence as a Driver of Socially Relevant Ecosystems” launched by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) .The Faubel Group was one of the applicants together with other partners of the “modular AI” project.  This project was selected among 35 proposals to work on the submitted idea during the competition phase which will be funded from April to September 2019. Safe electronic systems As a leading provider of functional labels, Faubel will define what AI requirements there are in the pharmaceutical, medical and logistics sectors and derive corresponding AI-based development processes. The findings will be posted on the modular AI platform to be used for developing functional and safe electronic systems. Faubel has […]

LogiMAT 2019

SIL and Faubel showed e-paper displays without batteries. More than 60,000 international trade visitors went through the halls of Messe Stuttgart to attend LogiMAT 2019. Faubel & Co. Nachfolger GmbH, the specialist for functional labels, was among the 1,624 exhibitors of the show where it unveiled its batteryless Smart Label with e-paper display. As Andreas Bartling, Business Development Manager for North Germany at Faubel, explained it to our visitors, “E-paper displays are perfect for marking products or processes that require variable labeling”. Controlled by rewritable RFID tags, E-paper displays are able to replace standard paper labels. The latest generation of Faubel Smart Labels is batteryless: the energy needed to update the display is supplied by the RFID field of the reader. Durable and permanent labeling “Batteryless Smart Labels are durable and maintenance free. That’s why they are particularly suitable for labeling within Kanban and closed-loop processes”, added Bartling. With its high resolution, the […]

Full Power even without Battery

LogiMAT 2019: Faubel and SIL batteryless e-paper displays to optimize logistics processes. “Batteryless does not work. That’s a statement we just couldn’t accept” explains Frank Jäger who is responsible for product development, sales and marketing on Faubel’s board and as well managing director at SIL. At LogiMAT 2019, Booth G15, Hall 4, they will show what they have been recently working on: Smart Labels with e-paper displays but without batteries. In today’s production and logistics processes there is a need to display information — about goods or processes — in many different places. Classic examples are reusable plastic boxes that contain different goods bound for different destinations. Within a delivery process, it is possible to update or “rewrite” recipients’ addresses on e-paper displays using RFID technology. This way, the delivery process becomes faster and more efficient. In many cases, displays are a real advantage for intralogistics as the data they […]

Development for Electric Vehicles

SIL is partner in state-funded RobKom project. As part of the project “Robuste Kommunikation in autonomen Elektrofahrzeugen (RobKom)” (Safe Communication in Self-Driving Electric Vehicles), the German Ministry of Education and Research is promoting the development of smart control for semiconductors in power electronics. SIL, which is part of the Faubel Group, is one of the six partners that do research on the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of semiconductors based on new materials such as silicon carbide. Coordinated by NXP Semiconductors Germany GmbH, this research project that began in November 2018 is due to last until October 2021. The German Ministry of Education is investing 5.95 million euros to support RobKom. This project aims to combine all-time safe and reliable communication between single components in electric vehicles with efficient power electronics. “Expectations placed on communication — both in-vehicle and vehicle-to-vehicle — are growing as a result of automation and digitization”, explains Tobias […]

Smart Packaging Conference

“Smart packaging has been the buzzword of the packaging industry for several years now,” explains Frank Jäger, Managing Director at Faubel, who attended the conference in Hamburg from 9 to 10 October 2018. The program truly reflected how versatile smart packaging is. In his talk “Bringing IoT (Internet of Things) to the Pharmaceutical Packaging Industry”, Jäger presented Faubel’s approach to this topic. “Unmanageable diversity tends to generate uncertainty among our customers. That’s why we offer them full service packages encompassing initial needs identification, concept development as well as the provision of all components such as RFID tags and software. After that comes system integration based on data protection and encryption.” Subsequently, he talked about the high quality and safety standards of the pharmaceutical industry with partners from engineering and high-tech industries. Towards the end of the conference, Frank Jäger drew the following conclusion: “the questions asked by the audience confirmed […]
